Anil Mistry was born in Leicester in 1970 to Indian parents. Growing up in the UK in a time of high racial tension and vibrant cultural upheaval made a huge impact on his childhood, and helped to form his world view.
From an early age he has been an obsessive collector and hoarder of random "junk"- old magazines, found objects and cultural artefacts, which he now uses, along with acrylics, oils, ink and spray paint to create pieces of art which is instinctively felt, rather than overanalysed.
Anil's work is an attempt to create his own reality, a place different to the ones in which he was brought up. A place where banality is banished, and cultural motifs combine in an explosion of expression.
When not creating art under the pseudonym Starchild, Anil works as a creative director in Advertising and TV, and creates prints under the SuperArtClub label.
